Cayetano warns against becoming a ‘fatherless nation’

Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano urged public officials to become sources of guidance, protection, and reassurance for Filipinos, warning against the country becoming a “fatherless nation.”

Speaking during a Facebook Live broadcast marking the 23rd anniversary of the death of his father, former senator Renato “Compañero” Cayetano, the senator said the qualities expected of fathers should also be reflected in public service.

Cayetano said the call extends beyond family life and includes leaders entrusted with public office, from barangay officials to the president.

He said Filipinos are looking for leaders who can provide stability as the country faces economic challenges, the recent earthquake in Mindanao, and incidents of violence involving young people.

“People are looking for a father,” Cayetano said, adding that public officials should provide protection and reassurance even in times of uncertainty.

He urged government leaders, regardless of position, to embody the values of care, responsibility, and service, saying these qualities help strengthen public trust.

Cayetano also encouraged Filipinos to pray not only for their families but also for the country’s leaders and those entrusted with serving their communities.
