Dubai Police has warned residents to stay vigilant against fake Hajj and Umrah campaigns as fraudsters intensify online scams targeting worshippers ahead of the pilgrimage season.
The warning was issued by Dubai Police’s Anti-Fraud Centre under the General Department of Criminal Investigation as part of the force’s “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign.
Authorities said scammers are exploiting the growing demand for Hajj and Umrah travel packages by posting fake advertisements on social media platforms and fraudulent websites.
According to police, the schemes often involve heavily discounted pilgrimage packages, promises of guaranteed bookings, and claims of fast-tracked visas and permits.
Victims are usually persuaded to transfer advance payments before the scammers disappear without providing any legitimate service.
Dubai Police said such fraud cases typically increase in the weeks leading up to the Hajj and Umrah seasons as more residents search online for affordable travel offers.
Authorities added that scammers often create fake websites and social media accounts impersonating legitimate travel agencies and institutions using copied logos, promotional materials, and professional-looking designs.
Police urged residents to transact only with officially licensed and authorized Hajj and Umrah operators approved by relevant authorities.
Officials also warned the public not to trust unknown entities or suspiciously cheap offers regardless of how convincing the advertisements may appear.
Dubai Police continues to advise residents to verify travel agencies through official government channels before making payments or sharing personal information online.
