58 OFWs complete DMW-TESDA reintegration scholarship program

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) have intensified reintegration efforts for returning overseas Filipino workers after 58 OFWs completed the pilot KAALAMAN Scholarship Program in Taguig City.

The graduation ceremony was held Tuesday as part of the government’s broader effort to help returning OFWs rebuild careers and establish sustainable livelihoods in the country.

In a statement, DMW Undersecretary Felicitas Bay emphasized the importance of continuous upskilling and reintegration support for overseas Filipino workers returning home after years abroad.

“The KAALAMAN Program does not only provide training but also creates real pathways toward quality employment opportunities for our OFWs,” Bay said.

The OFW scholars completed specialized courses in Paramedics, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC), and Caregiving.

Authorities said the training programs were designed to improve employability and open opportunities for both local and overseas work.

The DMW said 165 OFWs enrolled in the scholarship program, with 146 successfully completing the training, including the 58 graduates from the first batch.

Most of the scholars came from the Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia, while others previously worked in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia and the Pacific.

The KAALAMAN Scholarship Program serves as the flagship training component of the DMW’s wider reintegration initiative focused on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, skills development, and alternative livelihood opportunities.

The government said the program forms part of the Marcos administration’s continuing efforts to strengthen reintegration support and ensure returning OFWs have access to decent opportunities after working abroad.

Officials added that the initiative aims to equip Filipino migrant workers with practical and marketable skills that could help them transition into stable employment or business ventures upon returning home.
