Dubai to deploy mobility monitoring unit for e-scooters, bikes

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, in partnership with Dubai Police, will launch a Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit to regulate the use of bicycles and electric scooters across the city starting May 1.

The initiative aims to improve road safety by monitoring rider behavior and enforcing compliance with traffic regulations.

Authorities will focus on violations such as riding outside designated lanes, overspeeding, failure to wear helmets and protective gear, reckless driving, and carrying passengers on e-scooters.

Offenders may face fines, while non-compliant vehicles could be impounded as part of enforcement measures.

The unit will operate across key areas including major roads, cycling tracks, and high-density zones such as Dubai Marina, Business Bay, and Jumeirah Beach.

Officials said the move supports Dubai’s broader push for safe and sustainable mobility, combining infrastructure development with stricter enforcement to promote responsible riding.
