US-Iran peace talks may resume in Pakistan amid ongoing tensions

Fresh negotiations between the United States and Iran could resume soon in Pakistan, as diplomatic efforts continue to de-escalate the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad, while a U.S. logistics and security team is already in place for possible talks, according to sources.

The renewed push for dialogue comes after a previous round of negotiations failed to materialize, with both sides unable to commit to attending earlier talks.

Donald Trump has since extended a fragile ceasefire to allow more time for diplomacy, while also brokering a separate three-week truce between Israel and Lebanon.

Iran has indicated that maintaining the Lebanon ceasefire is a precondition for broader negotiations with Washington.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has restricted most shipping, severely disrupting global oil flows. Only a handful of vessels have crossed the key route in recent days, compared to normal traffic levels before the conflict.

The United States has imposed its own blockade on Iranian shipping, further escalating the standoff. Iran has said it will not reopen the strait unless the blockade is lifted.

The outcome of potential talks could have major implications for global energy markets and regional stability, as both sides weigh diplomacy against continued confrontation.
