The lawyer of slain former Lamitan, Basilan mayor Rosita Farugay denied all the accusations made by the suspect and gunman Dr. Chao Tiao Yumul. The suspect is now under police custody after the fatal shooting incident at the Ateneo De Manila University on Sunday.
“They have no truth in them. They are all lies,” Atty. Quirion Esguerra told reporters in an interview.
Yumol said that he had received death threats against him after he exposed the rampant drug problem and syndicates in Lamitan.
Yumol alleged that he was physically assaulted by unidentified men alleged sent by the Farugay family.

“Wala po siyang nailabas na ebidensya sa mga paratang niya kay Mayor Roderick Furigay pati kay Mayor Rose Furigay. ‘Yan po ay puro kathang isip niya,” the lawyer said.
Esguerra said that Yumul started harassing the Furigays after his infirmary clinic across the Lamitan city hall was closed due to lack of permits.
“Ang nangyari, nagalit itong si Dr. Yumol at nag-post ng mga malicious posts against the mayor, vice mayor, at mga opisyales ng city hall, despite the fact na pinagbigyan siya ng due process para hindi ma-close ang kanyang clinic. Sa dami ng mga napost niya, nag-file po ang pamilya Furigay, pati ang mga empleyado ng more than 70 cases of cyber libel,” Esguerra said.
The lawyer said Yumul has several warrants of arrest pending.
