An on-the-wheels consular access service was launched for OFWs in Al Khobar and other areas in the eastern region in Saudi Arabia.
The Philippine Department of Labor and Employment launched its mobile service program with Labor Attaché Hector Cruz, Jr. of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Al Khobar saying that this would cater to consular needs of Filipinos in the region, media reports said.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs also authorized the POLO to house distressed OFWs and those awaiting repatriation in the hotel-like shelter in the outskirts of the city, reported Manila Times.
With this Filipinos don’t need to travel 430 kilometers to the POLO in Riyadh and can instead seek assistance anywhere in Saudi’s eastern region. Between 220,000 to 230,000 Filipinos live in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia, the report said.
