Japan is providing scholarships worth 329 million yen (PHP143 million) to young and “highly capable” Filipino government officials seeking a postgraduate degree in Japan.
Japanese Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko and Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. signed and exchanged notes on the “Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship by Japanese Grant Aid (JDS)” for Academic Year 2022.

The scholarship offers two-year Master’s courses at Japanese universities, officials of the Japanese Embassy in Manila stated, adding that the funding would be for maximum 22 JDS officials from different Philippine government agencies, who will go to Japan to pursue postgraduate studies for the academic year 2022.
The officials said that the project aimed at increasing the JDS fellows’ expertise in their respective fields, while also helping build a pool of future Filipino leaders to contribute to the country’s overall economic development.

The Japanese government has, since 2002, supported total of 382 JDS fellows from the Philippines in the scholarship project.
