Bahrain credits salaries to residents affected by COVID-19 crisis

Bahrain has started crediting the salaries of Bahrainis working in the private sector as part of the Kingdom’s relief initiative to those affected by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain reported.
According to Social Insurance Organization (SIO) CEO Eman Mustafa Al Murbati, the money has been credited to the accounts of the second batch of business owners to help them pay for the wages of the employees for the months of April, May, and June.

The Insurance against Unemployment Fund, amounting to Bh214.8million (Dh2 billion) is part of Bahrain’s economic package to help businesses economically impacted by the disease.
The Kingdom’s Minister of Labor and Social Development Jamil Humaidan said the government guarantee is part of liquidity for the private sector to help mitigate the social and economic impacts of the current global health crisis. The assistance will also maintain the growth of the private sector and enhance its vital role in supporting the national economy.
Employers who want to be included in the relief package can register for the aid via an online portal launched last April 8.
The initiative is part of a COVID-19 private sector economic support program worth more than Bh4.1 billion (Dh39.9 billion).
