Filipina leaves job in Dubai to put up dream restaurant in Cebu

It all started with a dream.

Couple Geoffrey Broutin and Herley Herrera-Broutin left their high-paying jobs in Dubai to embark on a new journey with one goal: to put up their own restaurant.

Geoffrey was a chef by profession, whose last assignment prior to setting up the business was a chef in Meydan Hotel, a five-star luxury hotel in Dubai.

His wife Herley, on the other hand, is a Cebuana who previously worked in the human resources department of Shangri–La Hotel in Dubai.

Together, the husband and wife joined forces and poured years of experience and hard work into their new baby –the L’Artisan French & Mediterranean Cuisine Restaurant in Oakridge Business Park, located at the heart of Mandaue in Cebu.

“L’Artisan in our first venture together. In fact, this is our dream venture. We thought that there is so much to share to Cebuanos (given our vast experience in luxury hotels abroad) especially in food,” said Herley in an interview with Sunstar.

Their love child was born in 2015, a well-loved restaurant among Cebuanos that serves dishes that show hints of Geoffrey’s more than 15 years of kitchen expertise. The couple said that although they employ conservative marketing efforts, the restaurant has since been drawing good reviews.

L’Artisan is all the rave in Cebu and has been awarded the Best Restaurant of the Year in 2016 by Sunstar’s Best of Cebu.

Herley attributed the restaurant’s success not only to their sumptuous dishes, but also to the way they handle their customers.

“We are offering a five-star way of service in a casual way,” she said.

“We want Filipinos to stop eating only as a necessity but also for pleasure,” Geoffrey added.
