Regine speaks up after Idol Philippines judges received backlash

Manila: Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez defended her fellow Idol Philippines judges Vice Ganda, James Reid and Moira Dela Torre from bashing.

Speaking to reporters at the PMPC Star Awards, Velasquez responded to criticisms questioning the credibility of her co-judges.

“Meron kaming kanya kanyang specialty ako obviously sa technicals ako. And a lot of times they don’t even question what I say,” Velasquez said.

The Songbird adds that every judge has distinct quality and personality and it’s very difficult to compare who is more qualified than the other.

“May kanya kanya kaming trabaho. They were chosen because meron silang expertise,” Velasquez explained.

Netizens reacted on some of Idol PH auditions episodes where a singer who performed ‘One in a Million’ was told by Velasquez’ co-judges that he lacked emotions and expression in singing the song.

Velasquez, for her part, said that the singer’s emotion was just right because the song was meant to be hopeful and not a sad one.

Another controversial audition was reggae singer Luke Baylon, who was turned down by the judges because he ‘lacked’ something in his performance.

Singer Bituin Escalante and director Joel Reyes also expressed their opinions on Idol PH’s panel of judges.

“Very interesting naman kasi talaga yung show plus you have a different mix of contestants and you have four different personalities na iba iba rin ang tingin sa bawat performance,” Velasquez said.
