DFA: 962 stranded OFWs in NAIA given financial assistance

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported that a total 962 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) following a runway mishap last week benefitted from the financial aid offered by the Philippine government.

In a statement, DFA said the government has released Php4.8 million to help stranded OFWs by giving them financial aid. Those stranded are eligible to receive Php5,000 from the government.

Affected OFWs who are still in the Philippines can still claim their cash assistance at the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs (OMWA) at the third floor of the DFA Building in Pasay City until the end of office hours on Friday, 31 August.

Affected kababayan who are already abroad can file their claim at any Philippine Embassy or Consulate General until September 30, 2018.

OFWs claiming financial assistance are required to personally appear and submit their airline ticket showing original date of departure; reissued ticket showing new date of departure; Employment Contract; and Overseas Employment Certificate.
