President Rodrigo Duterte might step down from his post if former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will win his electoral protest against the elected Vice-President Leonor “Leni” Robredo.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that “there are more people qualified” to take-over the presidency than the current vice president.
As to whether he wants Marcos to win the protest is a different matter, said Roque in a press briefing in Malacañang.
It can be recalled on Tuesday that Duterte said he was tired and would want the likes of Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Bongbong Marcos to replace him.
Roque clarified that it was just a statement of exasperation as Alan Cayetano will always be Duterte’s first choice.
However, the spokesperson said it is possible that Duterte thinks Bongbong Marcos is one of the better qualified leaders to succeed him.
“If he (Marcos) becomes vice-president then perhaps the president will make true his word, he will step down,” Roque said.
The Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) will determine whether Marcos’ claim that there was cheating last Presidential election in May 2016 has any validity.
