Duterte mulls sending warship to Libya to secure release of abducted Pinoys

President Rodrigo Duterte said he is considering to send a frigate to Libya should the government receive news that the abductors are hurting the three Filipinos kidnapped in the North African country.

In his speech during the inauguration of the Northern Mindanao Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Bukidnon, said he is “not joking” about sending a warship to Libya, similar to the South Korean government’s move to send the 4,000 tonne warship Munmu the Great.

“The Koreans — nagpadala ng barko doon (They sent ships there). You know I’m not joking, magpadala rin ako (I will send, too). If they hurt the three Filipinos there, I will send the frigate,” Duterte said.

Moreover, the Philippine Navy has vowed to help the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in the rescue of the three Filipino nationals who were abducted in Libya.

Last week, a video released by The Libya Observer last week shows the abducted foreign nationals crying for help from the Philippine and Korean government.

The four abducted men, three Filipinos and a Korean, are lined up sharing a bottle of water while being guarded by a masked armed man behind them.

“Mr. President, please help us. We don’t have anything. We don’t have food. We don’t have medicine. Please help us, we are already suffering,” one of the Filipino men pleaded.
