The artist who designed the old 20-peso bill and 100-peso bill is catching attention on Facebook after a millennial shared a video clip of him sketching.
In her Instagram story, Sofia Cope featured Angel Cacnio, drawing an impromptu gift for his visitors.
“Pagpasensyahan niyo na to ah. Gusto ko lang pakakapunta niyo dito, mayroon akong konting (regalo),” says Cacnio in the video.
The sketch was a gift to Sofia’s companion Clarisse but Sofia was thrilled to watch the whole process.
“Seeing this nominated national artist draw before my very eyes was in itself something to behold. I was both in awe, but mostly humbled especially when he said, ‘pasensya na,’” admitted Sofia to The Filipino Times
Sofia also captured “Reporma,” a famed painting of the artist which Sofia described that if she stared at it long enough, she would hear the subjects screaming and would give her chills.
Cacnio is seen smiling and speechless in the video when Sofia’s companion Clarisse, gifted him an easel.
Sofia is a designer who writes about her creative process in her blog. She became friends with another artist Clarisse Provido through their shared love of art.
“Visiting Filipino artist in their homes sort of became our thing,” Sofia told TFT.
Sofia confessed that she, herself, did not know some of the artists before they visited them.
“This generation really needed to hear about these creators without them knowing.”
Their visit to Sir Angel Cacnio garnered plenty of shares and positive reactions on social media; having 11 thousand shares and viewed over 85 thousand times.
“I love documenting these trips and sharing my experiences to my followers who are mostly millennial creatives,” said Soofia.
The Central Bank of the Philippines commissioned Cacnio to design the 20 and 100 peso bills in the 1980’s. Sofia also shared the first drafts of the bills in her Instagram story.
“Knowing our local artists should be a thing for the younger generation’s awareness, for the preservation of culture and, of course, for enabling the arts to flourish,” added Sofia.
