An overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Dammam, Saudi Arabia is crying for help after her employer doused her with hot water for seeking help from her agency about alleged physical abuse.
OFW Gealyn Tumalip-Gavanes, who is currently admitted in Dammam Central Hospital, sustained burns in different parts of her body.
The Filipina from Abra was deployed in Saudi only two months ago.
This is not the first time that an OFW was scalded by a Saudi employer with a boiling water. In 2014, OFW Fahima “Candies” Alagasi sustained severe burns after her employer poured hot water to her after the OFW accidentally dropped the lid of a thermos while preparing coffee.
The OFW suffered from second-degree burns on her neck, back, and thighs due to the incident. She escaped her employer while undergoing treatment and sought the help of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.
Four years later, President Rodrigo Duterte’s discussed the issue with the Saudi Prince, who later allowed Alagasi to come home despite facing a case filed by her employer for her accusations.
