Smart cameras, or high resolution cameras which are able to detect motorists with expired vehicle licences on roads, will be used starting July 1, Ajman Police announced.
Colonel Khalid Mohammed Al Nuaimi, deputy director general of police operations, said the technology will be used in line with goals of making roads safer for motorists.
The smart cameras will be able to detect vehicles with expired licenses as of July 1, 2018.
Motorists caught driving without licenses or with expired registration will be asked to pay Dh500 and will incur four black points. Their vehicles, meanwhile, will be impounded for seven days.
Al Nuaimi reminded motorists to renew registration to avoid termination of their licenses in cases of road accidents.
He added that insurance companies will not shoulder the expenses in accidents which involve vehicles with expired licenses.
