The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has confirmed that there are no Filipino casualties following a storm that triggered floods in Oman.
In a statement, the DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Muscat relayed the news to the local affairs department.
Despite this, the Embassy is still in continuous talks with the Filipino community in Salalah, the capital of Dhofar province, which was hit the hardest by Tropical Cyclone Mekunu.
“The Philippine embassy in Muscat continues to monitor the situation in Salalah… and is in touch with members of the Filipino community there,” the DFA said.
Philippine Ambassador to Oman Narciso Castañeda said there are 49,000 Filipinos in Oman, 10,000 of which are located in Salalah.
A report by Gulf News on Sunday, May 27, revealed that the death toll brought about by Cyclone Mekunu had reached 10. Forty people are still missing.
