His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has granted pardon to 304 prisoners of different nationalities who showed good conduct while serving their sentences.
Major General Saif Al Zarri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, said Sheikh Dr Sultan made the move ahead of the holy month of Ramadan to help prisoners start anew.
The Sharjah ruler also wants to bring hope and happiness to the pardoned inmates and their families.
Earlier, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 935 prisoners who had shown good conduct inside the prison.
Mass prisoner releases have become common practice by rulers in the Gulf Cooperation Council at the start of the holy month.
