President Rodrigo Duterte said he wants to see his grandson follow in his footsteps and become Davao City mayor in the future.
During his speech in Patikul, Sulu, Duterte said his wish is to see grandson, Omar Duterte, lead Davao City someday.
“May interest na lang ako, ‘yung apo ko maging mayor ng Davao. Okay na ‘yan,”
Duterte added his grandson would make a very good Muslim mayor.
“At least may dumaang mayor na Muslim,” he added.
Omar is former Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte’s son to Lovelie Sangkora Sumera.
Despite his wish, Duterte clarified that he supports the decision of the Consultative Committee (ConCom) to include national and barangay positions in the regulated prohibition on political dynasties.
ConCom defined a political dynasty as “a family whose members are related up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity, whether such relations are legitimate, illegitimate, half or full blood, maintains or is capable of maintaining political control by succession or by simultaneously running for or holding elective positions.”
