The Philippine National Police said Monday it has completed security preparations for the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, adding that authorities have not monitored any credible threats that could disrupt the proceedings.
PNP spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co said police have finalized deployment plans and are coordinating with the Senate and other government agencies to ensure the orderly and peaceful conduct of the trial.
He said an appropriate number of police personnel will be deployed, with final deployment details to be announced once preparations are completed.
The PNP is also preparing for possible protest actions that may coincide with the impeachment proceedings, although Co said authorities have not received information about any organized demonstrations.
Police will continue monitoring the security situation and verify any information regarding potential threats, he added.
Asked whether police would arrest Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa should he appear at the impeachment proceedings while an arrest warrant remains in effect, Co said the PNP would carry out its legal mandate.
“We are mandated to effect the arrest of Senator Bato,” Co said.
The impeachment trial of Vice President Duterte is scheduled to begin on July 6.
