The camp of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa has surrendered 20 firearms registered under his name to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The firearms, registered to the senator’s address in Barangay Ma-a, Davao City, were turned over by his legal representative to the PNP Regional Civil Security Unit 11 (RCSU 11). The camp was subsequently issued acknowledgment receipts for the surrendered firearms.
In a press release, the Philippine National Police said its Civil Security Group carried out a “structured and orderly” firearms safekeeping process in Davao City on June 11. The weapons were brought to the RCSU 11 office at Camp Sgt. Quintin M. Merecido in Buhangin for official custody and safekeeping.
The move follows the PNP’s revocation of Dela Rosa’s firearms licenses on May 27, issued by the Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO). The order cited a pending criminal case carrying a penalty of more than two years as basis for the cancellation of his licenses.
Under the FEO directive, 117 firearms registered under Dela Rosa’s name are subject to confiscation or deposit with the FEO or RCSU 11 for proper legal disposition.
The development comes after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Dela Rosa in connection with crimes against humanity allegations linked to former president Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug campaign.
