Filipina beauty queen Ahtisa Manalo received a loud ovation during the national costume presentation of Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand, wearing a vibrant outfit inspired by the Philippines’ rich festival traditions.
The costume, designed by renowned Filipino designer Mak Tumang—who also created Catriona Gray’s iconic 2018 “lava gown”—features a Maria Clara top made of piña silk with a pañuelo and bell sleeves. The full skirt draws inspiration from the Pahiyas Festival of Quezon, while elements from the Giant Lantern Festival of Pampanga and Baguio’s Panagbenga Festival add more color and grandeur, making it a festival come to life on stage.
On Instagram, Manalo described the ensemble as embodying a “festival queen,” symbolizing Filipino beauty, blessings, and culture. She said it captures the nation’s love for fiestas, reflecting history, tradition, and festive spirit. “With every step, I become the living festival of the Philippines — carrying the brilliance of a thousand lanterns, the warmth of Filipino hospitality, and the timeless grace of María Clara onto the Miss Universe stage,” she added.
