The Department of Health (DOH) said that there were signs of community transmission of the highly contagious Delta COVID-19 variant in Metro Manila and Calabarzon.
The DOH however said they needed more evidence to formally declare the presence of community transmission.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said: “Currently, we have seen and observed, especially in NCR and Region 4A, na talagang mukhang community transmission na ito. Nakita natin na wala nang link ang mga kaso sa bawat isa. We are seeing clustering of cases in these two big regions.”
Over the weekend, the Philippine Genome Center early noted the same observation, but the DOH said the country has no capacity to declare immediately.
So far, there were 807 recorded cases of the Delta variant in the country.
