KNOW THE LAW: AED 5,000 fine, jail for neglecting children in UAE

The UAE public prosecution has urged its residents to bear in mind that the country’s laws emphasize on the people including parents and custodians not exposing their children to homelessness or any form of neglect,

In a message put out on Twitter in this regard, the UAE Public Prosecution warned of a Dhs5,000 fine being imposed on those who violated this law and for neglected children.

The public prosecution authority, while citing Articles 35 and 60 of Federal Law No. 03 concerning child rights (Wadeema Law), stated that children should not be left alone, without adult supervision or monitoring. These guardians also needed to ensure that the children were having access to education.

Not adhering to the law in regard to the protection of children from any sort of harm is a violation that is punishable with imprisonment and a Dh5,000 fine, the authority stated. (AW)
