The UAE has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for emergency use for 12 to 15 years age group after results of stringent clinical trials and assessment approved its use in exigent circumstances.
The approval, which follows the National COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, was a shot in the arm supporting the country’s efforts to protect children in this age group from the deadly virus.
Before this move, only people aged 16 and above were permitted to receive the COVID-9 jab.
The country’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi (DoH), the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) launched a free national vaccination campaign.
By providing over 11 million vaccine doses to citizens and residents around the country, the UAE has contributed to delivering the declared target of vaccinating half of the eligible population by the end of March 2021.
