Water turning into ice sheets and icicles on plants were among the recorded footages of the effects of ongoing winter season as temperatures drop for the first time below zero degrees on Saturday in the UAE.
The Raknah Weather Station in Al Ain recorded minus 2 degrees at 5:15 AM on Saturday.
Based on their update, as of 6:12 pm on Saturday, temperatures are expected to drop below zero degrees in the interior of the country.
Weather expert from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) explained that the cold air mass is approaching the country moving from east and northeast, over the desert.

The lowest temperature recorded over the country as of 6:45 UAE local time was at 2.3 degrees Celsius in Damtha.
In Raknah, NCM said temperature there is colder because the area is like a valley wherein air in the area gets cooler than any other.
Last week, temperature in Raknah had hit 1.9 degrees.
UAE’s highest mountain, Jebel Jais, also recorded 1.7 degrees Celsius recently. (ES)
