San Juan City Mayor goes self-quarantine after staff tests positive for COVID-19

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora has put himself under quarantine after one of his city hall staff tested positive for coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

“In the interest of public safety, I will be going on self-quarantine starting today until April 11, 2020. Rest assured that I will continue to manage San Juan’s day-to-day operations,” Zamora said in a statement posted on his social media accounts.

Zamora added that he has not exhibited any symptoms for the coronavirus and considers himself still in perfect physical condition.

The staff who tested positive for the virus was ‘asymptomatic’ too, according to the mayor.  Zamora said that he has not spoken with the concerned staff and therefore no close contact was made with the staff.

Zamora said he is looking forward for the opening of San Juan Medical Center’s COVID-19 ward, which will be composed of 25 rooms dedicated to COVID patients. The San Juan Science High School will also open its facilities to cater to COVID-patients starting this week.

San Juan has 73 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 10 fatalities.
