'Don't wear N-95': Health Ministry advises against wearing masks due to respiratory risks

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) advised the public not to wear N-95 masks for risks of putting unncessary stress to the respiratory system and increased likelihood of developing future respiratory diseases.

MoHAP stated that the N-95 is only for frontline medical staff who provide care for confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The video also stated that masks should be worn by those who are sick, and that the public should wash their hands more instead of wearing masks.

The advisory also stressed that children are prohibited to wear the particular mask.
Earlier, WHO representatives stated that the general public need not wear masks – even medical masks, as it’s more important to practice frequent handwashing and to maintain proper hygiene than to wear one.
