A man from another Gulf country tried to set his grandmother on fire by locking her in his car and setting off a gas cylinder.
But the old woman was so smart that she kept her hand on the car horn until passers-by noticed her struggling from within the vehicle and she was saved from certain death.
Newspapers said the unnamed man took his grandmother out in his car after lying to her that he wanted to buy her a mobile phone.
He then drove to a deserted area, locked the woman inside the car, and set ablaze a gas cylinder he had hidden in the car boot.
He then ran away, leaving his grandmother struggling to get out of the car, the report in Al Bayan daily said, adding that the woman suffered from burns all over her body.
A court sentenced him to three years in prison and ordered him to pay his grandmother Dh50,000 damages. He then appealed the verdict with the Court of Cassation, which rejected his appeal.
