A restaurant in San Francisco is making vegan versions of Filipino classic dishes.
Nick’s on a Mission, located at 996 Mission St., in the heart of San Francisco’s Filipino Cultural Heritage district SOMA Pilipinas, serves vegan versions of the “lumpia”, “pancit”, “sisig”, and “kaldereta”.
This branch, which recently opened this month, is also a “turo-turo”-style Filipino restaurant.
It is owner Reina Montenegro wanted to also share the love for plant-based foods, says a report from Inquirer.net.
It was back in 2017 when this Filipina and her partner Kenny Annis decided to transform the place into a 100-percent vegan restaurant.
Apart from the regular Filipino main course, they also serve ube pancakes, leche flan, and a variety of packaged foods at their new location which only offers take-outs.
They likewise has opened a second location, “Nick’s on Grand”, in South San Francisco that provides a more upscale dining setting.
Their first “Nick’s Kitchen” in Daly City now serves as a commissary for the entire operation.
