DOLE warns public on fake job opportunities online

The Labor Department has issued a warning against fake social media accounts offering jobs abroad.

In a statement, DOLE said the public should only search for job opportunities at legitimate government websites like www.dole.gov.ph, the PhilJobNet for local job postings at www.philjobnet.gov.ph, and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) for overseas job orders at www.poea.gov.ph.

The advice came after a jobseeker, named only as “Mary” complained about a Facebook page bearing the logo of DOLE and offering work in Canada, Australia, Singapore, London, Calabarzon as well as Mimaropa for nurses, caregivers, managers and restaurant staff, among others.

The applicant then sent Php1,000 to a certain Arthur Villena, an alleged DOLE employee, as payment.

The employee then set up a meeting at the DOLE office in Intramuros, Manila but did not show up.

The DOLE said it is now coordinating with Facebook to shut down fake job accounts.
