A survey has revealed that the five best countries for overseas workers are in Europe as well as the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, two of which are Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Conducted by HSBC in 2018, the survey collected responses of 22,318 international workers in 163 countries following a series of metrics which included salary/ remuneration, career growth, and work environment and culture.
Other factors which indirectly affect the participant’s work environment such as the country’s economic and political climate, were not taken into consideration.
Among the top five are Bahrain and United Arab Emirates which landed second and fifth spot, respectively.
For four consecutive years, UAE has ranked as the fourth most popular country for expats due to attractive salary packages and good benefits. In fact, 95% of UAE expats said their employment package includes health, transportation and other benefits. Expats also lauded the UAE for its diverse work culture.
Gaining the second spot is Bahrain, which is recognized for its strong financial offering, and various career growth opportunities.
According to the survey, 77% of expats in Bahrain have higher earnings than in their home countries and that they receive additional benefits such as accommodation allowance (68%), health benefits (64%), and airfare to home country (68%).
Completing the list are Germany in the top spot, United Kingdom in third spot and Switzerland in fifth.
