Malacañang denies Duterte suffered mild stroke

The Malacañang belied Senator Francisco Tatad’s claim that President Rodrigo Duterte had suffered a mild stroke during his five-day hiatus last week.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abello assured that the President is physically fit to work.

“You know, he (Duterte) showed himself. Kit Tatad may just be creating fantasies,” Abella said.

Tatad said in a column published in the Manila Times Duterte suffered a mild stroke that affected his arm and was brought to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in Greenhills on June 15.

The President also underwent a peritoneal dialysis, a treatment for early kidney disorder, Tatad claimed, citing “highly informed sources”.

Duterte made his first public appearance in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte on June 17 after five days of absence.

During the hiatus, Duterte missed his first Philippine Independence Day rites as president on June 12.

“It is not that I snubbed Independence Day. My body was overwhelmed. I really needed to rest,” Duterte said in a speech during the founding anniversary of Agusan del Norte.
