Woman, her household, left with water to calm hunger pangs

After their food packs were spent, with no source of income with the quarantine imposed by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), a woman based in Calamba, Laguna drinks water as balm to hunger pangs.
GMA News reported that this was what Luzviminda, her three children and three grandchildren had to resort to.
“Tubig na lang po para mabusog kami. Para naman medyo tumagal-tagal ang aming buhay sa quarantine ngayon,” she said.

“Nasunod kami sa gobyerno tapos ito nga, walang pagkain. Bigas lang, okay na. Kahit ilugaw lang namin, konting asin, okay na ‘yon. May laman ang bituka namin.”
A tricycle driver, Gilbert Atienza, a tricycle driver is jobless as public transportation ground to a halt three weeks ago.
He even lost his driver’s license to officials when he tried to work amid the lockdown.
Atienza has to care for his pregnant wife and his elderly mother.

“Kasya po ba ang tatlong kilo sa isang buwan? Paano naman po ‘yung susunod pang mga araw?” he lamented.
“Hindi naman po kami mamamatay sa COVID e. Mamamatay kami sa gutom,” Atienza added.
Officials said they are distributing food packs and asked the people to be patient as they will continue to extend assistance to the people.
