Filipino seafarer dies from COVID-19 in the United States

A Filipino seafarer from the MV Grand Princess cruise ship docked in San Francisco, California has died from the coronavirus disease or COVID-19. 
 
The Philippine Consulate in San Francisco announced on Saturday.
 
Consul General Henry Bensurto Jr. said in a statement that the seafarer, who was not named, died on April 1.

“We salute him for his dedication to his job and for the sacrifices that he made for his family,” Bensurto said.
 
“The Consulate General will continue to coordinate with concerned authorities on the appropriate handling of the remains of the deceased and assist with relevant formalities,” the Consul General added.
 
The DFA said that there 466 Filipinos abroad who tested positive for the virus. 18 new COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos were recorded on April 3.
