Rizal town declares state of emergency after methanol poisoning

The town of Rizal in Laguna province has declared a state of emergency following the death of at least 9 individuals on Sunday over methanol poisoning.

At least 200 people were rushed to hospitals in Metro Manila.

Rizal Mayor Vener Muñoz vowed that the local government will be shouldering the expenses of those who were poisoned by methanol through local drink called lambanog.

The Food and Drug Administration will examine the samples of lambanog which were bought by the victims.

The province of Laguna orders a ban on selling lambanog in the entire area.
