US Speaker Pelosi to committee chairs: Draft Trump impeachment charges

For months, she refused to support the bid to impeach US President Donald Trump.

Now, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked the House committee chairs to draft articles of impeachment against Trump over his effort to pressure Ukraine to investigate a political rival.

“The facts are uncontested. The president abused his power for his own personal political benefit, at the expense of our national security.

“Sadly, but with confidence and humility, with allegiance to our founders and heart a full of love for America, today, I am asking our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment,” she said in a televised speech.

Pelosi had earlier said it is “not worth it” to impeach Trump as it would be divisive and bipartisan.

Today, she declared lawmakers have “no choice but to act.”

Hours before the Democratic cngresswoman from California came out, Trump went on Twitter taunting the House Democrats to impeach him quickly.

“If you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast,” saying he wants to move to a Senate trial.

Trump is accused of withholding nearly $400 million in congressionally approved military aid to pressure Ukraine’s new president into launching an inquiry into his 2020 Democratic rival Joe Biden and his son, said a BBC report.
