A court in Ras Al Khaimah sentenced an Asian worker to life in prison after he was convicted of murdering his roommate while drunk.
The court also fined the defendant Dh10,000 for having alcoholic drinks and ordered him to pay diya (blood) money to the victim’s family.
The unnamed defendant had confessed he used a kitchen knife to stab his friend twice during a heated argument at their living quarters in the Northern emirate.
He told court that he had liquor just before the argument and that he stabbed the victim after he provoked him.
Diya, money paid by the killer to the victim’s relatives to avert execution, is set in the UAE at Dh200,000.
