An Asian man was caught at Dubai’s airport with 54 drug capsules concealed inside his belly after customs men noticed he looked ill and had unusually red eyes.
The unidentified man immediately drew the attention of customs officials who were inspecting passengers arriving from an Asian country in July.
“He looked ill and could hardly keep his balance as he hurried towards the airport gates… Customs men also noticed that he had unusually red eyes and was carrying a bag that looked almost empty,” Emarat Alyoum daily said.
Scanning showed the man had strange objects in his belly and it emerged at hospital that he had swallowed 54 capsules of amphetamine weighing nearly 362 gm.
In court on Sunday, the defendant confessed that he was given the drugs by dealers in his home country to deliver them to some persons in the UAE for money.
The judge sentenced the defendant to 10 years in prison and ordered him to pay Dh50,000 fine.
