Zamboanga City has unveiled the first batch of electric tricycles (e-trikes) that it acquired as part of its public utility vehicles modernization program.
The 38 units of e-trikes were made in Italy and are Euro 4-compliant.
Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco said the first batch of e-trikes was launched as part of the ordinance that directs tricycles to be part of the modernization program.
Climaco said that once the new units will be released through cooperatives, new franchise owners of the e-trikes will be directed to turn over their old tricycles to avoid duplication.
The e-trikes were purchased through funding assistance from the ZGEMPCO group and the Land Bank of the Philippines.
The city is targeting to complete its transport modernization within five years.
