The gang leader who tried to escape prison by disguising as his daughter is now dead.
Clauvino da Silva hanged himself with a sheet said the Rio de Janeiro prison authorities on Tuesday as per a report from the Associated Press (AP).
An investigation was opened for this.
Earlier, he was caught over the weekend when he tried to sneak out of the jail pretending to be his 19-year-old daughter with the aid of a female silicon mask, a long dark-haired wig, tight jeans, and a pink t-shirt.
But his nervousness gave him away and was caught by security guards.
Da Silva was part of the leadership of one of the most powerful criminal groups in Brazil.
