Filipino market is our ‘bread and butter’ – New Safestway Supermarket

DUBAI: Saying the Filipino market is their “bread and butter,” officials of New Safestway Supermarket has opened their third branch, this time, in Tecom at Barsha Heights, Dubai, with plans to make its Karama outlet bigger next month and open one in Abu Dhabi in September, Deepak Waghnani, Retail Head of the West Zone Group, which operates the general store, told The Filipino Times.

“We aim for all market segments,” Waghnani said. “We also sell Filipino food. That’s our bread and butter,” he added.

Waghnani said their operations focus on the “Three S’s”: service, satisfaction, selection.

“We are providing move services to the customers, we have the supermarket a triple S,” he said.

The Tecom branch opening, held July 4, was highlighted by a traditional Indian ritual called “Pooja,” that makes use of a coconut, or sriphala in Sanskrit, which means God’s fruit, and which represents sacredness, purity and cleanliness. The coconut is broken by smashing it on the floor or anywhere hard so that its water does the cleansing.

New Safestway Supermarket’s two other branches are in Jumeirah Village Triangle, located between Emirates Road and Al Khail Road in Dubai, which is some 30 minutes from the Dubai International Airport and 15 minutes to the beach or Marina area; and one in Al Safa near Sheikh Zayed Road.

West Zone, which reportedly operates 85 hypermarkers across UAE, acquired Safestway in January this year.
