DUBAI: Some 167 overseas Filipino workers in the UAE today received their official certification as caregivers from Philippine government’s Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in a ceremony held at the Consulate in Dubai.
The recipients said they will use this certification to land jobs as caregivers in Canada, the US, Australia or Europe.
The certification is recognized in these countries, according to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO).
Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes told The Filipino Times that the certification is a good thing in that it opens doors for other opportunities. (See interview here)
Likewise. Labor Attache Fely Bay said she is happy that a big group OF OFWs managed to get the certification. It was the first such big group.
She said the OFWs had to undergo long hours to study caregiving, not to mention going through a TESDA assessment to see if they qualify. (See interview)
TFT also interviewed some of those who received their certifications and are one in saying they plan to go elsewhere and work as caregivers
