7-year-old girl falls to her death from Sharjah building

A young girl fell to her tragic death, from the 5th floor of her apartment building in Sharjah. The girl was said have fallen from the living room balcony.

Police rushed to the scene in under 5 minutes and was able to rush the girl to Al Qasimi Hospital. Unfortunately, the girl passed away after sustaining fatal injuries, Khaleej times reported.

The World Health Organization (WHO) website reported that in 2004, over 46,000 children die from falls.

Non-fatal falls lead to long-term traumatic brain injury affecting motor, speech and learning skills.

On their website, safekids recommends that window guards are installed. However, these windows must have an emergency release in case of fire.

For windows that can be opened from the top half or lower bottom, it is recommended to open only the top half. Bear in mind that kids become stronger as they grow. Limbs become longer, which allows them to reach higher places.

Lastly, the website recommends that children are not allowed to play near staircases, porches, decks and balconies.
