Binay: ‘Natalo ako dahil sa cheating sa eleksyon’

Former vice president Jejomar Binay on Wednesday, November 14, alleged that there was cheating during the 2016 presidential election.

During the regular Kapihan sa Manila Bay news forum, Binay said that he should have at least placed second in the elections had it not been for the cheating incident.

“Ang number one [na] dahilan kung bakit ako natalo ay yung cheating sa eleksyon,” Binay said.

“Ako talaga, at the worst, [I should have been] number two,” he added.

When asked why he did not protest for the results, Binay cited practical reasons particularly the cost of filing an appeal.

Binay finished fourth in the 2016 presidential elections next to eventual winner President Rodrigo Duterte, former senator Mar Roxas, and senator Grace Poe.

After his loss in the presidential race, the former vice president is now running as congressman of Makati City’s first district. His children, incumbent mayor Abby and former mayor Jejomar, Jr., meanwhile, will go head to head for the city’s mayoral post.
