Filipino teachers in UAE need to obtain good conduct certificate

All teachers in the UAE, including Filipinos, will be needing to obtain a good conduct certificate from the last country they worked to become a licensed teacher in Dubai.

Dr. Naji Al Mahdi, chief of qualifications and awards in Dubai at Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), said that teachers would need to submit a good conduct certificate in order to get a permit to teach in Dubai, reported Khaleej Times.

He said that the main purpose of the said certificate is to “ensure the safety of all students” adding that there is a need to know if an educator who will be working in the emirate has criminal records.

Al Mahdi said that the UAE has already mandated all teachers to obtain a teaching licence by 2021. Moreover, all teachers in Dubai would also need to have a teacher or educational leadership permit by the same year.

In order to obtain a teaching permit in Dubai, Al Mahdi explained that there are six supporting elements to be considered; namely the teacher’s subject knowledge, teaching certification, language proficiency, Ministry of Education teaching licence, professional development and portfolio.

The Ministry of Education will also be verifying the qualifications provided by the applicant.

Al Mahdi also said that this will guarantee that diverse set of teachers in the UAE have all received high quality education.

Al Madhi noted that there are 1,053 Filipino teachers in the UAE among many other nationalities.
