UAE to use digital tobacco stamp next year

Beginning next year, the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) will implement a digital tax stamp scheme to ease collection, ensure transparency and combat tax evasion.

The new scheme is expected to reduce illegal smuggling of cigarette in the UAE. This means that every pack of cigarettes will have individual stamps bearing its import and manufacture details.

The FTA warned that suppliers who will not abide by the scheme will pay penalties and may be banned from selling. They also stressed that individuals who will tamper, sell or re-use the stamps will also get penalized.

They have yet to release the guidelines and conditions for the new scheme, reported the Arabian Business.
