Fixer nabbed for extortion of Php1 million from foreigners

The Manila Police District has arrested an alleged fixer of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in an entrapment operation on Monday, September 17, after he was reported by two foreigners for extorting almost one million pesos from them.

The suspect was identified as Alexander Kiat from Sta Cruz, Manila. He was approached by a Nepalese doctor, Jha Prashant, to process the student visa of his cousin, Francis Sandeep Kumar.

According the Manila Police District-General Assignment and Investigation Section (GAIS) Chief Henry Navarro, the foreigners filed a complaint against Kiat for running away with P985,000 they paid him.

Despite the big sum, Kiat reportedly failed to provide Kumar with a student visa and blocked the two plaintiffs on Facebook, reported Remate.

The suspect victimizes foreigners by boasting that he has connections inside the BI, he also claimed to be friends with its officials.

Currently, Kiat is facing charges of attempted estafa, fraud, falsification of documents, and violation of Republic Act No. 9485 or Red Tape Law.
