The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution launched an online option for minor criminal offenders to pay their fine online and get cleared without having to go to the court.
However, the service is only open to those whose offenses do not involve jail sentence, reported Khaleej Times.
The move was intended to improve customer services and to shorten the payment queue at the judicial department offices.
The offender can pay through the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) website. Once there is a court ruling, the offender will receive a notification about the fine sentence through a text message in which an option to pay online will be offered.
The SMS notification will contain the case number and a link, where the user can login and pay the due fines. After the payment is made, the offender will be cleared by the court.
Officials from the ADJD said that the initiative will make paying convenient and will reduce the number of people who fail to pay the fines.
